MAY 2019 LAHTA RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY

Los Angeles Hospitality Training Academy celebrated the grand opening of their new location at 1234 S. Western Avenue in LA’s Koreatown. The May 7 ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by SMRC Governing Board Co-chairs, Dr. Dione Carter (SMC Noncredit) and Dr. Devon Smith (SMMUSD Adult Education), alongside representatives from the City of Santa Monica, City of LA, LACCD, LAUSD, SMC, and SMMUSD’s Trustee Maria Leon-Vasquez were in attendance, joined by others from surrounding communities and workforce. LAHTA Programs Manager, Ms. Madeleine Brand is a great friend of the SMRC Regional Consortium for Adult Education.

The HTA is a culinary apprenticeship program that provides a brand new location and training for adult learners, 18 years of age and older, to gain employment in a union job. Once the 7-week culinary/HTA program is completed, students complete 1000 hours with their employer (an apprenticeship through the Labor Department according to the HTA). Targeted employers in hospitality are located throughout Los Angeles and Santa Monica given anticipated hospitality growth due to the upcoming Olympics and tourism. The HTA also plans to offer training classes in Bartending.
